The Royal Blind Charity required an innovative light show for an important fund raising event in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens. As part of this project, it also needed lighting and special effects for a sponsored walk around the gardens. The charity chose us to design and set up both elements.

Key Details:

Service Type: Events

Sector: Charity / Fund raising

Completion: October 2010

Client: The Royal Blind Charity

What we did

  • We designed and installed a full production rig at the Ross Bandstand in West Princes Street Gardens for a tenminute programmed light and music show.
  • Before the actual show, the whole system was set up in our warehouse so that we could do a full "plot" of all lighting cues.
  • We lit the whole route around the park to create different effects for the walk participants.
  • One effect involved the installation of UV-bubble machines along the path. These produced glow-in-the-dark bubbles that cascaded around the walkers.
  • Our technicians worked to a very tight deadline and only had an hour and a half to set up all the lighting equipment for the show and the sponsored walk.

Result

The results were really special and great fun. Hundreds of children and their families enjoyed a spectacular light show and a beautifully lit sponsored walk thanks to the imagination and ingenuity of Black Light’s Events Team.

Feedback

The client was pleased with the results and reported that everyone had a wonderful evening and enjoyed being part of the exciting event.

The Event

The Glow in the Park event took place at the end of October 2010. As part of Light Relief Week 2010, it was organized to raise much-needed funds for the Royal Blind Charity, whilst also highlighting some of the difficulties faced on a daily basis by blind and disabled people. Edinburgh-based Royal Blind works to make a significant contribution to building a community in which blind and partially sighted people are fully included and lead fulfilling lives.
