Black Light Brings a Lighting and Sound Sensation to Historic Alloa Town Hall
Filed under : Installations, Local Councils Performance Venues
Black Light has provided a full package of lighting and sound equipment for Alloa Town Hall – a historically significant building that is host to a wide variety of civic events, amateur and professional theatre performances and other entertainments. Our team acted as consultants to the project and then sourced and installed the required equipment. We worked to a very strict deadline, as the equipment re-vamp was needed for a televised Scottish Parliamentary election count.

What we did
We met with the client and hall users and carefully discussed their needs. We then draw up a full specification list and brief for the project. This was put out to competitive tender by the client. We then went on to successfully win the job and were given a tight deadline to work to – the time from signing the contract to project completion was around five weeks. As we had been involved with the project as consultants we had done the groundwork to ensure that our solutions were right for the building and that they would meet end-users’ needs.
Thanks to our comprehensive stock list and good supply chain we were able to get the high-quality equipment the project required quickly and cost-effectively. Alloa Town Hall is a beautiful building and we had to be particularly careful in how we installed equipment, so that we did not damage or compromise its historic interior (particularly in the front-of-house area).
We did a lot of work providing new infrastructure for the hall and installed significant amounts of cable and containment, along with custom-made Facilities Panels.
As the project progressed, we responded to additional on-site demands from the client and made all necessary on-going changes.
Result
We hit deadlines imposed by the use of the hall for Scottish Parliamentary Election counts (and associated TV coverage), and a pre-existing booking by one of the local large amateur dramatic societies. Our success shows that how we can provide effective consultancy on an installation and then follow this up with successful project delivery – on-time, on-budget and with the client’s requirements as our priority every step of the way.
Feedback
The Council has been very please with our quick turnaround on this project and hall users are pleased with the new equipment they can utilize.
