As part of its drive to consolidate its position as a leading provider of training in the dramatic arts, Telford College recently commissioned a new performing arts studio. Thanks to our long-term working relationship with the college (which is located close to our office), we were involved in the design, supply and installation of a number of key elements for the new performance space. These included a grid truss structure. The project highlights our technical expertise, alongside our flexible and co-operative approach.

Key Details:

Service Type: Installations

Sector: Education

Completion: January 2011

Client: Telford College, Edinburgh

What we did

  • Designed, supplied and installed a grid truss structure in the new performing arts studio at the college. This large truss structure had to be suspended from the fabric of the building and we liaised with the college’s structural engineers to ensure they were satisfied with our approach.
  • One of the challenges posed by the project was that we had to incorporate the client’s existing truss in our design - this required careful planning and co-ordination and the collection and transport of equipment from Telford College’s off-site store.
  • Supplied and installed a new internally wired bar and cable system to the truss.
  • Supplied and installed blackout curtaining and track to the glazed wall forming one side of the studio.

Result

As the Scottish dealer for Prolyte (manufacturers of truss, staging, theatre and rigging products) we were well placed to supply and support the equipment we installed at the college. The success of the Telford project, underlines our capability to design, sell and install large truss systems sourced from high quality manufacturers.

Feedback

The client was very pleased with this work, which continued our long-term positive relationship with Telford College.

The Venue

The new performing arts studio is the college’s main performance space; it is also home to one of Scotland’s largest training providers in the performing arts, the Performing Arts Studio Scotland (PASS). Telford College is one of Edinburgh’s leading providers of tertiary education and has a student population of over 15,000. It runs over 1,000 courses, including a wide variety that cover the performing arts, theatre skills and music.

Equipment

  • Prolyte H30V (Square) and H30L (Ladder) Truss.
  • Andolite Custom-Manufactured IWBs, EEE Unitrack.
