We have played a key part in the recent revamp of the studio theatre at the Maltings Theatre in Berwick-upon-Tweed: the premier performing and media arts venue for north Northumberland and the Scottish Borders. Working to a very tight deadline, our installations team provided a full package of light and AV equipment to turn an un-equipped rehearsal space – the Henry Travers Studio - into a fully-functioning professional studio theatre for small scale theatre and dance performances.

The new Henry Travers Studio is a beautiful room, which delivers the flexibility we wanted as well as looking like a high-quality theatre space. We love it.”

The project involved reviewing the plans for the refurbishment of the 100-seat studio and then selecting and installing equipment to fulfill the client’s brief. This equipment included Andolite IWBs, Zero88 Chilli dimmers and outstations, an ETC Ion control desk, Selecon Rama Fresnel luminaries, Nexo amplifiers and speakers and a Panasonic LCD projector.

“From the point of order to the point of project completion, the timescale for the work was around four weeks – including resource scheduling, design completion and procurement,” explains our Installations Project Manager, Paul McGreal. “Within this tight time window, we were able to deliver a cost-effective solution that met the technical specifications, requirements and timescale demanded by the theatre.”

According to the Maltings, the newly-revamped Henry Travers Studio will now be available for around 90 additional small- to mid-scale touring music, theatre and dance performances annually, as well as digital cinema screenings. It will also provide enhanced facilities to the many local groups who use the venue.
