The project
Pleasance is a charity that supports new work at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Over the four weeks of the 2013 Fringe, the 23 Pleasance venues staged 217 shows and catered to well over 450,000 visitors. We supplied lighting, power, staging and rigging for all the Pleasance venues and bars – this included many kilometers of cabling and thousands of light fitments and other pieces of equipment.
Our role
We have a long-standing relationship with Pleasance in Edinburgh. We began working with the organization when it put on its first productions in Edinburgh 29 years ago. As in previous years, our hire team liaised closely with Pleasance in the months leading up to the summer festival. This ensured that the large quantity of equipment needed was available on schedule. As well as using equipment from our own extensive stock, we also sub- hired large quantities of gear from our network of trusted suppliers and partners.
Over the month of the Festival Fringe we supplied Pleasance with a dedicated on-site project manager. We also provided labour for the installation and removal of much of the equipment we supplied.
Key challenges
The main challenge provided by this project was the sheer quantity of equipment that had to be brought in and the logistics of getting this delivered and installed. It was also vital to keep budgets in check, to help Pleasance keep its operations
economically sustainable.
Despite the complexity of this project, all            of the equipment needed was supplied and delivered on time and on budget. The 2013 Festival was a great success for Pleasance – a success that was underpinned by the quality, reliability and cost-effectiveness of the equipment we provided.
 Client Feedback
“As ever, exceptional service from Black Light and its staff. All equipment supplied was of very high standard and utilised cutting-edge technology to deliver truly memorable performance spaces.”
